Each ‘Year of the Rabbit’ gold coin produced by the esteemed Perth Mint demonstrates the most extraordinary level of beauty and craftsmanship obtainable in .9999 fine gold.
The ‘Year of the Rabbit’ is the fourth coin released in the highly anticipated second series of Australian Lunar Gold Coins.
As ancient legend has it, on a Chinese New Year, the Buddha summoned all the animals of his kingdom, but only 12 showed up.  To honor those 12 animals, each was given a place in the zodiac and a year of its own, in the order that they arrived.  According to the Chinese lunar calendar, 2011 is “The Year of the Rabbit.”  People born in the Year of the Rabbit are believed to be articulate, talented, and compassionate, making them well-liked and respected by others.  They are also said to have the uncanny ability to make the right choices.
The intricate artistic detail of the rabbit displayed on the reverse of this coin is truly remarkable.  Each wisp of fur is clearly visible in the image of this delicate creature and reflects the gentle nature inherent to those born in the Year of the Rabbit.  Likewise, the tender leaves of cabbage and traditional Chinese clay pot next to the rabbit are exquisitely depicted.  The design also incorporates the Chinese symbol for ‘Rabbit’ and has the words ‘Year of the Rabbit’ inscribed below the image.  The letter ‘P’ shows this coin was produced at the highly lauded Perth Mint.
Each coin portrays the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as created by the master engraver Ian Rank-Broadley, on the obverse.
These lovely coins also make great gifts for those born in any year ‘ruled’ by the rabbit.  Starting with 2011 and working backwards that includes the years 1999, 1987, 1975, 1951, and 1939.
